Happy birthday Vogue, what finer way to celebrate than with a Rachel Mount cake...
Pâtisserie artist Rachel Mount was commissioned to create one of her elaborate edible sculptures for Vogue's 90th birthday. A lemon butter cream sponge decorated in hand-modelled sugar, the sculpture reflects the Vogue team's twin passions: fashion and cake.

‘Living Editor' Leticia Echavarri knew Rachel’s work from her features in UK Vogue. She commissioned Rachel to design them a spectacular cake for this special 20th Anniversary collector’s issue. After extensive research Rachel presented the team with a collection of six design sketches. They chose an elaborate confection titled ‘The Golden Spiral Of Couture’. The top piece of the cake features a sugar fashion model posing on spiral stair
case, inspired by a fabulous Tim Walker Vogue shoot with Lily Cole. This unique anniversary cake illustrated a full page opening their Living section a second page

A towering birthday cake by Rachel Mount proved to be too tempting for some: Lily Cole broke off an icing fashion figure to nibble in a taxi en route home.

The World of Miss V had all the post party gossip on Vogue's 90th Birthday and gave great mention of the cake.

Happy birthday Vogue, what finer way to celebrate than with a Rachel Mount cake... Pâtisserie artist Rachel Mount was commissioned to create one of her elaborate edible sculptures for Vogue's 90th birthday. A lemon buttercream sponge decorated in hand-modelled sugar, the sculpture reflects the Vogue team's twin passions: fashion and cake.

After viewing Rachel’s exhibition at Sotheby’s Alexandra Shulman commissioned Rachel to design Vogue their 90th anniversary cake. Rachel embraced the challenge and after
extensive research produced a collection of design sketches. The Vogue team chose one depicting 90 years of couture models stepping out of sugar magazine pages. After
sampling the cake flavours they chose lemon zest as the cake centre. The cake was made in two and three tier versions. The two tier version was used for the full page photo spread in the collector’s issue. Alexandra liked the photo of the cake so much that she used it on the front cover of their party invitation card.

Their glittering fashionista party was held in November at the Serpentine Gallery. Rachel’s three tier version of the design was the much commented on party centrepiece.

Vogue Nippon, October 2006

The feature about Rachel's work in UK Vogue's August issue inspired their sister magazine Japanese Vogue to also feature her designs.

Rachel Mount is a remarkable confectionery artist, baking exquisite sugary creations that are more sculpture than sponge cake.”

In 2006 Rachel produced a new range of fashion inspired cake designs and was thrilled that Vogue's Living Editor Vanessa Barneby chose to profile this new work in a one and a half page editorial feature. Rachel’s tumbling sugar shoe cake had caught Vanessa’s eye and she asked if Vogue could have exclusive on featuring of this design. They required a second image for the feature and Rachel designed a Vogue theme cake inspired by vintage Vogue photo shoots. The large elaborate design depicted 1950’s fashion house couture models.
